Information on Ham

  • Hams are perishable and must be handled correctly.
  • Look for best before date on fully cooked, unopened vacuum-sealed hams or keep refrigerated up to two (2) weeks.
  • Fully cooked ham store-wrapped whole hams can be kept 7 days; if cut in half, 3 to 5 days.
  • Fully cooked ham slices and cook-before-eating hams can be kept 3 to 4 days.
  • Hams may be frozen for 1 to 2 months
  • Hams labeled as fully cooked or ready-to-eat can be eaten cold, straight from the package
  • Fully cooked hams can be heated at 325°F (160°C) until a food thermometer inserted in the centre of the thickest part measures 140°F (60°C), about 20 minutes per pound. A 5 to 8 lb. boneless half ham will take 1 ½ to 2 ¼ hours to heat.
  • Cook-before-eating hams (fresh cured hams) should be cooked at 325° F (160°C) until a food thermometer inserted in the meat reaches 160°F (71°C).
